『社会学評論』に載っているSAGEの広告がひどい件
昨日最新刊が届いていて、ぱらぱら見てたら、巻末に載っている広告のところの、SAGEの社会学関連雑誌の宣伝ページが目に付いた（SAGEというのは出版社の名前）。まず、一番上に大きく書いてある惹句が、

そんな方法が！ すごい！
その下には、各雑誌の簡単な解説が書いてあるのだけど、これがまた。
Sociologyはthe British Sociological Asocciation（英国社会学会）の官報で、この分野で主要な学術専門誌の一つとして認知されています。30年以上もの間、この専門誌は研究分野を形作り、最高学究的基準の独自の研究を発表することで誰もが認める国際的な評判がある議論に、大いに貢献してきています。
「官報」とか「最高学究的基準」とか、おかしな言葉づかいもさることながら、明らかに日本語が不自由な人が書いている変な文章。元の英文がサイトに載っている。

「研究分野を形作り」（have shaped the discipline）の主語は「この専門誌」（the journal）じゃなくて「議論」（the debates）だよなあ、とか。
Gender & Societyは社会秩序の基本原理として、また主要な社会的カテゴリーとして、性の社会学および構造学に焦点を合わしており、また人類学、経済学、歴史、政治科学、社会学、社会心理学を含む、多様な社会科学の研究から、独自の研究、論評、国際的繁栄、書籍の論評などを特集しています。
「国際的繁栄」って？？？

「国際的パースペクティヴ」（international perspectives）じゃないか。「繁栄」（prosperity）じゃねえよ。
Sociological Methods & Researchは累積経験科学として社会学に捧げられている季刊誌です。SMRの目標は多角的ですが、方法論的問題を解明し、ある分野の周知の事実を順序付ける助けをする系統的なプレゼンテーションを通して、この分野の理解を進展させる
論文を掲載することを重要視しています。
「累積経験科学として社会学に捧げられている」。なんかすごい。

「devoted to sociology as a cumulative empirical science」というのは、社会学には理論的な面もあるけど、経験的データの収集蓄積という面もあって、この雑誌は後者の方に特化したものですよ、ということを言っているのであろうに。
International Sociologyはthe International Sociological Association（国際社会学会）と提携して出版され、高く格付けされた論文調査のある学術専門誌で、国際的で相対的なアプローチに焦点を合わせ、社会学の種々の範囲からの貢献を発表しています。この専門誌は世界規模の注目に値する、社会学的想像の中の実態を見抜く注意力を持って、斬新な理論と経験的アプローチを提供しています。
「社会学的想像の中の実態を見抜く注意力」って何だ？

「highly ranked peer-reviewed journal」を「高く格付けされた論文調査のある学術専門誌」。「論文調査」ってなんだよ。
「comparative approaches」を「相対的アプローチ」はないわ。「比較」でしょうが。
「with attention to insights into the sociological imagination」。「insight」が何で「実態」なんだ。「社会学的想像力に満ちた知見に注目しつつ」とかそういう感じだろう。
Journal of SociologyはThe Australian Sociological Association（オーストラリア社会学会）の官報です。社会学的研究とオーストラリアの社会学への関心の課題に関しての理論に関する、相互審査がなされた論文を扱っており、オーストラリアの社会学者と国際的な社会学のコミュニティーの間で対談と交流を促す目的としています。
また「官報」とか書いてるし。

「sociological research and theory on issues of interest to Australian sociology」というのは、「オーストラリアの社会学で関心の的になっている論点についての、社会学的な研究と理論」だろう。しかし、上で「論文調査」になっていた「peer reviewed」が、ここでは「相互審査」と、ちょっとそれっぽくなっている（「査読」でいいんじゃ・・・と思うけど）。
